Aquebogue-Jamesport

The Jamesport Civic Association meeting was held last Wednesday. We had a pretty good turnout despite the lack of publicity (sorry), but we had to meet outside because of flooding in the basement of the George G. Young Community Center. The meeting was brief and informative. The Riverhead Neighborhood Preservation Coalition presented its goals and information for educating its communities and helping neighborhoods become more aware of changes in development and codes that can affect residents throughout the Town of Riverhead. I joined as a personal member and I believe that the civic association is going to join as well. We discussed concerns over proposed zoning changes for Jedediah Hawkins Inn. Please see last week’s issue of the paper, in particular the letters to the editor. Also, plan to attend the ZBA meeting on April 22 at 7:15 p.m. For information on advocacy and membership in the coalition, contact [email protected].

Matching donations will be made by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Tickets are available at the door, or call 722-4000, ext. 10. For those who cannot make it to the dinner, takeout is also available. Come out and meet your neighbors and sponsor a local school!

Another free health screening is being offered at the Mattituck Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 17. Call 298-4145 for more information.

Grandma Marie Deuel has a birthday wish this week for her grandson, Travis. He will be turning 4 on Monday, April 19. Congratulations to Travis and to Grandma Marie!

I want to extend congratulations to my daughter MaryAngela, who just got her driver’s permit this week. She took her CCI puppy, 6-month-old Madias, to the test at DMV. Now he will sit in the back seat as my husband and I teach MaryAngela how to drive! I also want to extend get-well wishes to my daughter Anna as she recovers from a broken foot. Ballet dancers do not usually play basketball as well as they can dance. I guess I will have to make the trip down to Naples, Fla., to help her pack up for the summer. Oh well, Mom is always willing to help. Have a lovely week and enjoy the spring weather!
