Yolanda Garramone

Yolanda Garramone of Riverhead died May 13 at the Riverhead Care Center. She was 97.

Born Dec. 20, 1912, in Italy to Vincent and Marietta (Crescenzi) Scarpenella, she was raised and attended school in Italy and moved to the United States at the age of 18.

She worked as a seamstress before marrying Henry Garramone on April 30, 1938, in Brooklyn.

Ms. Garramone was a homemaker, who, according to her family, loved cooking, eating, gardening and her family. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading. She belonged to the Riverhead Senior Center.

Predeceased by her husband in 1993, she is survived by her children, Virginia Fontana of Riverhead, Lydia Maggio of Selden and Henry, of Walton, N.Y.; her brother, Virgil Scarpenella of West Babylon; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Family received visitors May 16 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were held May 17 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead by Father Thomas Coby. Interment followed at Linden Hill Cemetery in Glendale.
