Arrests in April home invasion

A Mastic Beach man and a female accomplice were arrested in connection with a home invasion last month in Riverside, authorities said.

Kyle Miles, 23, is accused of breaking into the victim’s Flanders Road home just before midnight April 16, assaulted him with brass knuckles and demanded money. The victim fought back, causing Mr. Miles to flee the scene with the man’s cell phone in hand, Southampton Town Police said.

The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was treated for injuries to his face and released. A 71-year-old man was also in the home at the time but was not injured, police said.

Shaniqua McClees, 26, also of Mastic Beach had visited the victim earlier in the night and then called Mr. Miles, who did not know the man, and told him where the victim lived, police said. The relationship between Ms. McClees and Mr. Miles was not made clear to a reporter.

Police arrested Ms. McClees on Railroad Avenue in Riverhead on April 19. Police said she had her 7-year-old daughter with her at the time of arrest and during the April 16 incident. Child Protective Services was notified, authorities said.

Southampton police, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Task Force, arrested Mr. Miles in Calverton Hills on May 5.

Mr. Miles was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree conspiracy. He’s being held without bail at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside.

Ms. McClees was charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child and is being held $12,500 bail.

Lawyers representing Ms. McClees and Mr. Miles could not be reached for comment.
