Guilty verdict in 2008 Riverhead bar assault

A 36-year-old Wading River man was found guilty Friday for the 2008 assault of a man outside of a Riverhead bar, according the the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Suffolk DA Thomas Spota said Kordian Dietz of Cedar Road faces a prison sentence of up to 25 years for hitting the victim, Marek Staszek, 24, of Riverhead in the face with a beer bottle in front the Loose Caboose bar on Railroad Avenue August 9, 2008.

Mr. Staszek, a carpenter, was left disfigured and blind, according to prosecutors.  After multiple surgeries, the victim regained partial vision in his left eye Judge Gerard Asher remanded Mr. Dietz to the Suffolk County Jail to await sentencing June 7.
