Calverton

The strawberries are almost gone for this year. I sure hope you enjoyed them as much as we did. The next new crop is zucchini and rumor has it that local corn is right around the corner! Everything is arriving about two weeks earlier this year, so don’t be surprised to see the local corn signs soon.

Bonnie Cheshire Roth, daughter of Ray and Diana Cheshire of River Road in Calverton, recently visited family in Backnang, Germany. She took her two sons, Liam, 9, and Matthew, 6, to visit their grandparents and everyone had a great time. Fishing, golfing and boating were their favorite activities. It was great to see everyone and they look forward to next year’s visit. Bonnie also recently visited her daughter Chloe, a student at Westhampton Beach High School.

Congratulations to Dr. Bach and his lovely wife, Terri, as they recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. From all who know and love the two of you, we wish you many more years of happiness together.

Can you believe there is only one more week of school left for students at Riley Avenue Elementary? June 24 will see a half-day of school, with dismissal at 11:45 a.m.; the same holds true for the last day, Friday, June 25. The fourth grade moving-up ceremony will take place on Monday, June 21, at 9:30 a.m., when we say goodbye to the students and wish them well as they move up to Pulaski Street School. It’s a tearful ceremony indeed, as I remember so well. Good luck to all of you at your new school. For those families who are moving, remember to let the main office know so that the necessary adjustments can be made.

Many thanks to Cub Scout Pack 404 for the beautiful job they did planting flowers and weeding the garden in front of Riley.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, uncles, poppies and grandpas. We hope your day is perfect and that you are able to celebrate with family and friends. Thank you for all you do for us. We love you dearly.

Until next week, be safe and I shall talk to you soon. Take care, bye.
