Edith Bodnar

Edith Bodnar of Aquebogue died June 9 at her home. She was 94.

She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Southampton to Zigmund and Alexandria (Kowalczyk) Hanko. She was raised in Jamesport and graduated from Riverhead High School.

Ms. Bodnar worked as a salesperson for Singer Sewing Machines in Riverhead and later for Swezey’s Department Store in the foundation department before retiring.

She was a member of the Riverhead Veritas Rebekah Lodge, Homemakers and the Senior Center. According to her family, she enjoyed crafting and yardsaling.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Colleen Cilenti of Mastic Beach, Lisa Downs of Center Moriches, Christine Scheiffelbian of East Moriches, Vincent Hanko of Florida and Patrick Hanko of Tennessee.

Family received visitors June 13 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were held June 14 at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead by Father Robert Kuznik. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
