Dolores E. Higgins

Dolores E. Higgins of South Jamesport died May 28 at her home. She was 77.

She was born Jan. 4, 1933, to Clare and Elizabeth Frisbie in upstate New York, where she was raised. After high school, she earned her master’s degree in teaching from SUNY/Oneonta.

In 1953, she married George Higgins. A teacher with the East Islip School District, she moved to the North Fork 28 years ago.

Ms. Higgins was a member of Mattituck Presbyterian Church, the Retired Teachers Association and Riverhead Garden Club.

According to her family, she enjoyed quilting and needlepoint.

Predeceased by her husband in 2006, she is survived by her children, Lisa, of Holtsville, and Michael; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 7, at Mattituck Presbyterian Church. Private cremation will follow.
