Charlotte Baerst

Former Aquebogue resident Charlotte Young Baerst of Laguna Woods, Calif., died there June 29. She was 83.

She was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Aquebogue to Harold and Elizabeth (Farbor) Young. She was raised in Aquebogue and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1944. After high school she earned a bachelor’s degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y.

On Dec. 2, 1956, she married Louis Baerst in Turkey. Ms. Baerst worked for the U.S. Army as a civilian administrator for 6 years.

She was a volunteer for Tony’s Treehouse and, according to her family, enjoyed playing golf and bridge, knitting, traveling, museums and the opera.

Predeceased by her husband in 1992, she is survived by her children, Steve, of Melbourne, Fla., and Andy, of Dana Point, Calif.; siblings, Eleanor Daniels of Northport and Avery Young of Aquebogue; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 31, at Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue by the Rev. Ledyard Baxter. Interment will follow at Aquebogue Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead.
