The ‘Awesome Alligators,’ a group from Riverhead Country Day School/Camp, groove to the song ‘ABC Rock’ for a camp talent show Friday morning.

Riverhead High School Class of 1987 graduate Wayne Talsky started golfing at Swan Lake Golf Club after high school, while waiting to join the U.S. Navy. Good friend Robin Winkle at Cherry Creek was largely responsible for encouraging Wayne to play, as was Wayne’s uncle Joel Frank, who gave him the Jack Nicklaus book “Golf My Way.” Twenty years later Wayne played in the Jack Nicklaus Cup Matches in Jupiter, Fla, with Mr. Nicklaus in attendance. Wayne’s wife, Susan, is very proud of him and said he will be focusing on the qualifying round, to be held on Sept. 2 at Baiting Hollow Club. If Wayne advances, he will play at Atlantic Country Club in Bridgehampton Sept. 25-30. The winner of this championship gets to play in next year’s Masters Tournament, held in Augusta, Ga. Wayne is a retired LCDR U.S. Navy Reserve, father to Noah, 3, and Jacob, 1, and is a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Peconic Bay Medical Center. While Wayne focuses on his golf tourney on Sept. 2, he and Susan will also be celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary. Susan hopes he doesn’t forget.

Congratulations to Frances Gatz of Riverhead Care Center. Her artwork has been selected to be featured in the 2011 “Art from the Heart” wall calendar. Her watercolor painting was one of 13 chosen for this honor. This is the sixth year the Foundation for Quality Care and NYSHFA/NYSCAL have sponsored this art contest. Way to go, Frances.

Don’t forget the Polish Town Fair is this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22. It’s an exciting time, and everyone gets to be Polish for the day.
