Frank Rykaczewski

Lifelong Riverhead resident Frank Rykaczewski died Aug. 10 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 92.

He was born Dec. 10, 1917, to John and Elizabeth Rykaczewski in Riverhead, where he was raised. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving a bronze star for his service. He married Estelle Martz in Wisconsin on Sept. 27, 1943.

A self-employed mason in Riverhead, Mr. Rykaczewski was a parishioner of St. Isidore R.C. Church, Riverhead, and a member of the church’s Holy Name Society.

According to his family, he loved his dogs.

Predeceased by his sisters Helen Tyska and Regina Hallinan, he is survived by his wife; daughters Darlene Taper of Bethesda, Md., and Patricia, of Redmond, Wash.; sister, Nettie Gayda of Riverhead; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Family received visitors Aug. 12 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at St. Isidore. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
