Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter (far right) addresses five former supervisors (from left) Phil Cardinale, Bob Kozakiewicz, Vinny Villella, Jim Stark and Allen Smith and town historian Georgette Case Friday afternoon at the senior center in Aquebogue. The occasion was a book-signing for ‘Riverhead Town Supervisors 1792-2010’ by Ms. Case. Supervisor Walter said he was humbled to be on stage with the former supervisors, calling them ‘a gifted group of people.’ Only 100 copies of the book were printed and copies were given out free at the event. Any remaining copies can be purchased at Suffolk County Historical Society in Riverhead.

A wonderful day in the Town of Riverhead was Aug. 6, when five former Riverhead Town supervisors and the current supervisor joined together on one stage to be honored by Town Historian Georgette Case. Ms. Case is the author of “Riverhead Town Supervisors 1792-2010,” of which 100 copies were printed. Former supervisors Al Smith, James Stark, Vincent Villella, Robert Kozakiewicz and Philip Cardinale, along with current Supervisor Sean Walter, each received a copy of the book. Suffolk County Legislator Edward Romaine also received a copy as thanks for hosting the reception. Families of deceased supervisors were also recognized. They were: Bob Burns, son of Milton Burns; Sharon Leonard Reinehr, daughter of Bill Leonard; Sandra Leonard DeHayes, daughter of John Leonard; Sibby Vojvoda Penny, daughter of Robert Vojvoda; Jay Janoski, son of Joseph Janoski; and Hank Hallock, great-grandson of Henry Hallock. Supervisor Walter assured the town historian that he will have more books printed. Staff members at the Riverhead Senior Citizens Center in Aquebogue are to be commended for their assistance with this program.

Many thanks to Linda Rooney and Janet Bahnke for their hard work on the annual golf outing at Indian Island on Aug. 9. The families at St. Isidore School, as well as everyone who participated in the fundraiser, were an important part of its success. The work that is being done on the convent to create a new preschool and science lab is coming along wonderfully.
