According to teacher and program leader Christina Amato, the activities for Weird Science Day also included making a lava lamp, crazy putty and mini volcanoes and germinating marigold seeds.

Helene and Kenny Pickett recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Momma Lombardi’s Restaurant on the Bay with their family, Kathleen and JW, Michael, Kevin and Julie and Denise and Carl along with their eight grandchildren. Their anniversary was Dec. 26 and they waited to have some nice warm weather for the whole family to be together. Family came from Virginia, Texas and California to enjoy the festivities for this milestone. Congratulations to you both and Sto Lat!

Frederica (Smith) Rollins is working hard on the Riverhead High School 30th class reunion, a whirlwind weekend starting Friday, Oct. 8, at Jerry and the Mermaid. On Saturday, Oct. 9, there will be a tailgate party at the RHS football game against Islip at McKillop Field and in the evening a gathering at East Wind Caterers from 7 to 11 p.m. The celebration will conclude Sunday with a get-together at the country fair along the Peconic River. The cost is $100. If you’re interested, contact Frederica at 764-0070. It should be a great weekend of fun and it seems just like yesterday. On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the community is invited to the RHS auditorium to meet, greet and welcome the new Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Carney. There will be a small reception at 6:45 p.m. with cake, coffee, punch and fruit salad; the Board of Education meeting will follow.

The No Doubt World Famous Monday Night Band played another twilight concert on the lawn of Pulaski Street on July 26. Be sure to mark you calendars for their final summer twilight concert on Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Special guest performers that evening will be Robert Hovey, trombonist, Arthur Hovey, tubaist, and the Long Island Tuba Quartet. This musical performance will be a special tribute to the band’s founder, Howard Hovey, on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Lyn Tyler, president of the Peconic Bay Medical Center Auxiliary, wishes to thank all those who gave their solid support to the Auxiliary barbecue dance at Calverton Links. The turnout was wonderful for an evening of fun and dancing. Thanks also to the Debra Liso Band with Prentiss McNell, who were just fabulous. The auxiliary holds its luncheon fashion show on Oct. 1.
