Man injured in hit and run, then dumped in Riverhead

A Riverhead man was hospitalized last week after he was hit by a car in Riverside and later dropped off on the side of the road a few miles away, according to authorities.

No arrests have been made.

The man, identified by police as Bairon Peredes, was hit by a white van on Vail Avenue in Riverside sometime last Thursday, Riverhead Town Police said.

An Aquebogue woman later spotted Mr. Peredes lying on Middle Road writhing in pain shortly before 9 p.m. The woman called police and Mr. Peredes was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

It was not clear if the person who dropped Mr. Peredes off on Middle Road was the same person who hit him. The case has since been turned over to Southampton Town Police detectives, who are investigating.

Peconic Bay officials would not give a condition of the victim or say whether he was still at the hospital.
