Riverhead High School’s Class of 1960 celebrated its 50th class reunion with a whirlwind weekend of festivities. About 60 classmates and their guests enjoyed cocktails at Indian Island Country Club on Sept. 10; On Sept. 11 there was food and dancing at a barbecue at the Flanders Men’s Club, with music by Larry Lang; and on Sunday, Sept. 12, they had breakfast at Bagel Lovers, where they reminisced some more and said their goodbyes. Traveling the farthest were Alan Horn and Bob Levy, both from California. Thanks go to Paula (Kirsch) Albin, who did a lot of the work getting the affair together. Her father, Andrew Kirsch, 93, was a biology teacher at the high school. Everyone had a great time and is looking forward to the next reunion.

Congratulations to Holly Hughes and Matthew Keller on their engagement. They plan to wed in 2012. Congratulations also to Candice Hughes on her full academic scholarship to C.W. Post, where she will be continuing her studies in accounting. The whole family is truly proud of these recent events and we wish them all good luck.

The United States Postal Service will proudly dedicate the Riverhead Post Office on West Main Street to a true American hero, Pfc. Garfield M. Langhorn, Monday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. Congressman Tim Bishop and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 11, will unveil a dedication plaque and pay tribute to Pfc. Langhorn, whose service and ultimate sacrifice brought him the Medal of Honor and will always be remembered.
