Robert J. Spanburgh

Robert J. “Bobby” Spanburgh of Riverhead died Aug. 25 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 71.

He was born in Queens on July 22, 1939, to William and Eleanor Spanburgh.

According to his family, he “was deeply admired by anyone he ever became friends with. He loved golfing in his day, and if there was a card game anywhere in Riverhead, you would most likely find him at the tables.”

Mr. Spanburgh is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his sons, Stephen and Scott; his sisters, Eleanor Niksa and Annmarie Zilnicki; and three grandchildren.

The family received visitors Aug. 27 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Private cremation followed. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
