Ridge man killed in Calverton car crash

A 77-year-old Ridge man was killed in a two-car accident that also seriously injured a Hauppauge woman Saturday, authorities said.

Ronald Edwards was driving a 1995 Volvo west on Route 25 just west of Edwards Avenue about 12:15 p.m. when he collided with Joanna Cammarato, 40, who was traveling east in a 2004 Chevrolet, according to Riverhead Town Police.

Mr. Edwards died at the scene.

Ms. Cammarato was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of “serious physical injuries,” police said.

No charges were filed and police said the investigation is continuing. Police are asking anyone with additional information to call detectives at 727-3200, ext. 326.

This was the second fatal car accident on Route 25 just west of Edwards Avenue in as many weeks. On Sept. 21, police said bicyclist Santos Lopez-Hervert, 34, of Calverton rode into the road in front of Frank Cisler, 25, also of Calverton, just west of Edwards Avenue and was fatally hit. Mr. Cisler was not at fault.
