Riverhead: Lots happening around town

Gerry and Christine Mapes are off to their home in Fort Pierce, Fla., for a relaxing time away from home and business. They will be joined by good friends Pat and Bob Walsh. Christine is hoping to visit the Hard Rock Café and take a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas, the biggest ship in the world. Have fun!

Melissa and Paul Fox were married on Sept. 18 at Iron Pier Beach. More than 100 guests enjoyed the luau reception. Melissa and Paul’s son, Paul Jr., was the ring bearer and Paul’s daughter, Alexa, was flower girl. Others in the wedding party included Tracy Want, maid of honor; Christopher Biekies, best man; Michele Spano, junior bridesmaid. Everyone had a glorious time. Best wishes for years to come.

The Riverhead-Jamesport Homemakers Evening Unit will, once again, sponsor the pumpkin- and vegetable-decorating/carving contest at the 35th annual Riverhead Country Fair, slated for Sunday, Oct. 10 (rain date: Monday, Oct. 11), from 10:10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring your entry to the south end of the East End Arts Council property from 7 to 9 a.m. For more information and rules, call 722-3873 or e-mail [email protected].

Connie and Jim Lull, the driving force of the country fair for 28 years, will be passing the reins to Patrick Mulcahy. The fair runs along Main Street from Griffing to McDermott avenues, along Peconic Avenue and behind Main Street along the Peconic River and includes many exhibits, garden tractor pulls, farm animals, good food and over 400 craft vendors. Do go, and have a great time!
