  • As an independant voter I have looked at Tim Bishops voting record and anyone that does not see that he is a party line rubber stamp vote is either a hyperpartisan , brain dead or in total denial of reality, check his voting record for yourself. Tim Bishop is part of the problem in washington , not the solution. The truly sad part is many people are too busy to take the time to examine the issues , if so they would also conclude the extreme partisanship of Tim Bishop. As for Randy Altschuler I don”t know the man ,but as a believer in term limits for all elected officials, I am willing have him audition for the job for 2 years. We should let new people who have actually been in the business world successfully to go to Washington on my behalf and attempt to tackle the issues that face our nation and eliminate the” good old boys club “that is killing our nation.

  • Mr. White,

Thank you for keeping us in SunLand informed and for keeping the paper alive online. The new format is great and your journalism is superb.

I wish that you would keep the pressure up on our local elected officials, namely our Supervisor Mark Lesko. Your recent editorial that he criticized was quite an eye opener and as the ex-wife of a former union organizer, I can tell you that I have seen that game before.

I brokers you were on the money and I think the outcome proves you right afterall. Keep up the good work.

    Kathy

  • Altschuler succesful? The successful world of taking away over 10,000 American Jobs? ——————— And what is this bad Bishop voting record? Stopping corrupt credit card companies from ripping us off? Voting on the stimulus which is already Proven a success (the facts- http://www.bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2010/11/the_stimulus_wo_1.html). And voting for Healthcare reform (which has been lied about by Fox non news, etc) which gives us the ability to cover our children until they turn 26, keeps us from being denied coverage or being dropped and the BIG point in the next few years will keep Insurance companies from drastically raising rates like they do now (in order to scare people). SO his voting has been good!! Also, Bishop also got about 170 million dollars in federal aid for education, saving jobs, our children’s education and saving tax dollars. He made over 1000 jobs at Brookhaven, kept shell/canada corp from building a off shore facility (we can’t afford another bp disaster in our hamptons tourist/fishing industry) and he also orchestrated the new Shinnecock canal project helping a lot of local PRIVATE businesses. So these are the issues. THe good old boys who are killing our nation are the ones tied to Wall St– and that’s who Altschuler is directly linked to!!!! We should consider him to direct our Country??? …so then we’ll go From the frying pan into the fire!

  • Thats all hes got in 8 years of being there ? Credit Card reform, the Obamacare nightmare which by the way is nothing more than defacto one payer system once all insurance companies have been forced out, and a few earmarks,.You have obviously consumed too much partisan cool-aid . Tarp, Heathcare, Stimulus, 3 votes for Mr Bishop and 3 strikes ! Next .

  • Do you really think it is “obvious” that the Obama agenda will “help our Country?” Believing that, I can see. Believing it is “obvious” proves that you haven’t given due diligence to understanding the other side’s point.

It is not obvious that a $3.8-trillion federal budget in FY 2011 is good for the United States. Period.

  • You obviously don’t know your facts and let other people do your thinking for you. You site nothing and you just shout slogans. Health care reform is NOT one payer, it is simply not allowing an industry to do what ever they want to the consumer (like the robber barons of the gilded age). You give strikes to all successful programs- Tarp (even though the problem was CAUSED by Republicans) will not cost $700 billion dollars (like Fox falsely reports), it will only cost $25 billion – that’s not as bad as a world depression (site the latest CBO). Also I only talked about Bishop’s past 4 years, I won’t waste my time siting the other Great things he did for Long Island because you are obviously NOT an independent and you simply want the Republicans to rule and make us a two class system- a few very callous rich and a lot of poor, powerless people (that’s not a Democracy/republic that is an oligarchy). Here’s a last scary thought; you teaparty buddies want to enviscerate the constitution. They only want people who Own property to have the right to vote- http://thinkprogress.org/2010/11/30/tea-party-voting-property/ That is sick! What about all the soldiers who live on bases- NO you can’t vote, only the rich people with a lot of MONEY! Independent? HA!

  • And a great deal of the deficit is on the shoulders of the past 8 years of Republican rule, the new costs are fix it programs to repair our Country. Check out the CBO, the deficit is slowly being reduced now.

  • The tea party doesn’t have a clue about the constitution. Can you read? I used the word “caused”, as in made a need for…. TARP was the bandage to help stop the bleeding of Wall street who are in complete collusion with the Republicans. Ford taking over GM? They barely had their heads above water. I guess you do have to read and get the facts. GM is making a profit now and thousands of workers have kept their jobs. The President is the only President to have pumped money in energy independence. As to your healthcare statements- Only the really rich from other countries come to get healthcare here. LEARN the difference between healthcare insurance and the Health Profession, they are completely different. Of course we have the best Doctors, Nurses etc and we have the most criminal Health Insurance companies in the world! I am dealing with the NOW, and right now Republicans want to give tons of money to just REALLY rich people, offer no ideas for job growth, block all the better ways to get HEALTH insurance. And they don’t want to give help to the unemployed NOW. Their only goal is for our Country to fail, so they can blame the President and get back into power to help their corrupt friends. They simply want an oligarchy and the Teaparty is lockstep with them!

  • Whats interesting to me is you believe that the democratic party does all things correctly, and the republican party does all things wrong. Nowhere in our discussions have you said that any issues that wrked out badly were caused by a democratic administration or even both parties., now thats a partisan divide if I ever saw one. What I was driving at with the Ford comment was that another car company could have taken the assets of GM without the taxpayer shouldering the burden, and wiping out the shareholders . Another scenario was a legitimate bankruptcy and renegotiating all contracts just like everyone else filing for bankruptcy. Instead a ” structured bankruptcy “was created, it was alot of inside baseball , union payoffs and the takeover, guess who made money on it Wall Street. Last week they set up the GM stock purchase options for a few large institutions, not you or me. If you believe that the GM takeover was all legit and aboveboard you are dreaming. I have been in the energy business 25 years Obama has done nothing on energy independance , pumped money you say, yes, borrowed money from China, plus interest, yet , he demonized Bush as a big spender, and Obama is right, of course now that Obama is in office he hit the accelerator on spending, hypocrite. You want to defend Obamas spending fine, then you have to defend Bushs spending. I could go on but, Unfortunately, your party has sold you out and you do not even know it or accept it.

  • Re: Alessi’s quote-For five years, ………….. what I set out to do for Suffolk, there is still more work to be done.” By framing his work on behalf of “Suffolk” and not the first AD it is apparent that he has shifted gears to pursuit of the now open County Legislature seat.

  • Have you even considered how many of those companies would have gone under completely- eliminating ALL jobs had they not found ways to run “lean & mean” including outsourcing of some functions? Many tax dollars are derived from the income of jobs we kept in US as those companies were able to continue operating. Private sector can’t merely “raise taxes” when they are inefficient or not profitable. In addition to individual tax dollars- many corporate taxes were also paid. And employees who kept their jobs are not applying for unemployment benefits. Waste in Washington and Albany cause far more damage than “outsourcing”….that word has been exploited ridiculously in this race.
