Southampton blotter: Flanders man arrested for DWI

A Flanders man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after crashing his car into a telephone pole last Wednesday night on Elm Avenue in Flanders, Southampton Town Police said.
The driver, Guillermo Vargas, 48, of Sylvan Avenue, was not injured, police said.
• Jabier Ramirez, 31, of Aberdeen Road in Hampton Bays was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle last Wednesday night on Peconic Avenue in Riverside after he was pulled over for insufficient lights, police said. An officer discovered his license was suspended for a prior alcohol-related charge in which he failed to submit to a chemical test, police said.
• Tito Canel, 46, of Cypress Avenue in Flanders was charged with public urination about midnight Nov. 6 on Flanders Road and Vail Avenue in Riverside, officials said.
• Three men drove a car through a gate at Suffolk County Community College’s eastern campus in Northampton last Monday night, severely damaging the gate, police said.
A maintenance worker told police he saw the trio walking around the buildings about 11 p.m. and told them they weren’t supposed to be on the property at that hour. The men then got into a small dark-colored sedan and drove to the front gate, which was locked. They tried to break through the lock before getting back into their car and crashing through the south gate. No arrests were made.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
