Rae Carol Wells

Rae Carol Wells of Riverhead died Nov. 11 at the Riverhead Care Center. She was 81.
She was born Aug. 15, 1929, to Frank and Ruth (Hicks) Braustein in Riverhead, where she was raised. She graduated from Valley Stream High School in 1947, and married Philip Wells in Valley Stream on Aug. 17, 1947.
Ms. Wells worked as a homemaker and bookkeeper for Sound Avenue Repairs in Riverhead for 32 years. She was a member of First Parish United Church of Christ in Riverhead and had been a 4H leader in the 1960s. She also belonged to the Sam’s and Honeybees R.V. clubs.
According to her family, she loved animals and enjoyed knitting, playing piano and reading.
Predeceased by her husband in 2000, Ms. Wells is survived by her daughters, Lynn, of Riverhead, Ruth, of Scotia, N.Y., and June Harrison of Closter, N.J.; her sons, Barton, of Riverhead, and Dale, of Rising Sun, Md.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, by the Rev. Robert Terry. Interment will follow at Sound Avenue Cemetery in Riverhead.
