Flanders: Southampton Youth Bureau hosts Extreme Rec Day Nov. 11

November is here and that means the movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is coming out soon! I bet you thought I’d say something about Thanksgiving. That’s arriving soon, too, but this year I’m more excited about the movie than I am about the food and the family. Sorry, but this is Harry Potter we’re talking about! I’ll let you know what I think.
The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau and Southampton Youth Services are hosting Extreme Rec Day for students in grades 3-8 on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southampton Town Recreation Center, 1370A Majors Path. Admission is $20 per person, which includes lunch and refreshments. There will be inflatable fun, arts and crafts, kickball, board games, basketball and much more! Space is limited. For more information, call the bureau at 631-702-2425.
The Flanders Village Historical Society will meet tonight, Thursday Nov. 4, at the David Crohan Community Center at 7 p.m. The next meeting of the Bay View Pines Civic and Taxpayers Association will be held tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., also at the community center. Officer Gil Maldonado from the East End Drug Task Force will be the guest speaker. All are invited to attend both meetings.
Happy birthday to my brother, Jim Zaleski, who celebrates tomorrow, Nov. 5, from us, your wife, Denise, your children, James and Charlotte, Harley the cat and all your family and friends. Make it a good one!
Congratulations to Robert (Mr. Luke to those of us at Phillips Avenue School) and Denise Lucas on winning the grand prize at radio station WRCN’s annual Halloween bash at Ladakins last Friday night. They won the tickets to the “ticket only” party and went dressed as a Bunny (Mr. Luke) and carrots (Denise), costumes handmade by Denise herself. The grand prize includes VIP tickets to “Rock of Ages” on Broadway, where they will meet Dee Snider from Twisted Sister; dinner at a fancy restaurant; a night at Embassy Suites in Manhattan; $300 cash; and a helicopter tour of Manhattan. What a great mini-vacation and, best of all, it’s free. Enjoy!
Due to the Veterans Day holiday there is an early deadline at the Times/Review office. Any news you’d like to share with the community for the Nov. 11 issue needs to get to me by tonight, Thursday, Nov. 4.
Well, friends and neighbors, that is all for this week. Please give me a call or e-mail me with any news. Have a wonderful weekend and please remember to drive safely.
