Calverton: The newest member of the grandma club

I have waited for so long to say this — I’m a grandma! My son Rob and his wife, Jaime, became parents to a beautiful baby girl on Dec. 11 at 5:24 p.m. Julia (named after our “Gramie”) weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. What an amazing joy it is to hold a baby and know she is part of you. My friend Shirley Robinson welcomed me to the grandma club. Everything she told me about being a grandmother is true, and it’s only been two days. Jaime and Rob, enjoy your little girl. God bless you all for a perfect life together.

Riley Avenue Elementary School news: The mural-hanging ceremony at Peconic Bay Medical Center was, once again, a wonderful success. The murals were created by the students at Riley. The chorus did a great job entertaining the patients and staff and spreading holiday cheer. Riley’s holiday concert at Riverhead High School was attended by lots of family and friends. The “High School Heroes,” which include RHS students, will come to Riley and work with first-graders and help them with their school curriculum through May.

December birthdays at Riley include Kay Duzel, Pam Owen, Dianne Tuthill and Artie Apicello. Best wishes for a happy birthday.
Florence Danowski of Calverton is a wonderful person. She will celebrate her birthday on Dec. 18. Happy birthday from all your family and friends. We all wish you a perfect day. I have to ask you, Florence — do you love that reclining chair or what?
Soccer player Jordan Fulcoly has been named to All-League 2010. Jordan plays year round for the Middle Country Cruzers U17 premier-level team, which is ranked No. 2 in New York. The team has earned a place in the national tournament at Disney World on Dec. 27. The best of luck to you. Let’s go, Cruzers!

The annual Ryan Hautsch Memorial Brunch will be held Sunday, Jan. 16, at the Jamesport Manor Inn, with many thanks to Matt Kar. All proceeds support the Ryan Hautsch Scholarship Fund, for local culinary arts students. Ryan was planning to become a chef when his life was suddenly cut short. A buffet brunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for adults, $20 for teens and $12 for children. Call 722-0500 for your reservation.

One more baby thing, then I’m done … for now. Dad caught some scallops the other day. Within the bunch we found a very tiny baby scallop, about the size of a dime. Of course my daughter Jamie could just not see this little baby not live, so we headed off in the dark to drop it into the bay. Then she said, “How about Atlantis Aquarium?” You can now visit Nemo (OK, she named it) there.

That’s all for now. Have a great week, be safe and I shall talk to you soon. I love you, my little Julia.
