Francis J. Sinnott Jr.

Francis J. Sinnott Jr. was welcomed into the arms of God on Dec. 9, 2010. He passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in Bradenton, Fla.

Frank leaves behind Edna (Mayer) Sinnott, former wife, dedicated mom and eternal friend in Bradenton, Fla.

He was predeceased by his wife Florence (Fagan) Sinnott. Frank and Florence were the loving parents of four children, Michael (June) Sinnott, Jeffrey (Margaret) Sinnott, Leslie Sinnott (David Guadalupi) and James (Lynn) Sinnott. He was grandfather to five granddaughters (Jennifer, Megan, Amy, Mindy and Carly), two grandsons (Kevin and Desmond) and two great-grandchildren (Camron and Anna).

Frank’s extended family also included Jaime Traherne; Jeff, Wendy and Kimberly Mayer; Carly Rockstroh; Todd and Michelle Mayer; and Sandra and Craig Trend.

Frank was the son of Francis J. Sinnott Sr. and Marguerite (Babcock) Sinnott, and was also predeceased by his sister, Gloria Sinnott. He is survived by his brother, the Rev. James P. Sinnott of Maryknoll Missionaries in Seoul, South Korea, and his sister Edith Cullen Fenn of Mattituck.

Frank was born May 27, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He resided in East Williston and Jamesport on Long Island for most of his adult life before retiring to Anna Maria Island, Fla., in 1996.

Frank was an avid water enthusiast, sailor, fisherman and clammer on Great Peconic Bay throughout the summers of his youth and while raising his family on Lockitt Drive in Jamesport. The North Fork of Long Island forever held a special place in his heart.

Frank attended Kings Point U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Upon graduation in 1951 he was employed by United Fruit Company. Following his subsequent employment with New York Life and dabbling in Long Island politics, he was appointed superintendent of Nassau County Parks. He then became executive director of the Kings Point USMMA Foundation.

He was a member of Mattituck Presbyterian Church and Roser Church on Anna Maria Island, Fla. As an active volunteer, Frank was involved with the Haiti Mission, CROP Hunger Walk, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Hospice, and was on the board of directors for Hope Seeds.

Frank was a very charitable person and well known for his fundraising endeavors. He was also an enthusiastic evangelist, always seeking opportunities to share his robust faith.

A memorial service in honor of Frank’s life will be held at a future date to be announced by his family.
