John H. McDonald

John H. McDonald of Riverhead died Dec. 13 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 72.

He was born Feb. 1, 1938, in the Bronx to William and Mary (Beaton) McDonald and was raised upstate. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1979, retiring as a major and having earned a Bronze Star.

Mr. McDonald married Susan Somerville in Riverhead in 2008.

He was a member of Riverhead United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by his brother, Bill, he is survived by his wife; his children, Jennifer Wing of Minnesota and John, of Austin, Texas; his sister, Florence Pellerin of Nova Scotia; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 15 at Riverhead United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gordon Bienvenue. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
