Robert D. Abbate

Robert D. Abbate of Calverton died Dec. 10. He was 83.

He was born May 6, 1927, in New York City to Louis and Concetta (DeFranco) Abbate. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and later worked as a self-employed carpenter.

Mr. Abbate is survived by his wife, Louise (née Grasso); his children, Judith Mellett of Florida and Robert, of Connecticut; his sister, Rose Chiofalo of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren.

The family received visitors Dec. 12 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 13 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead by Father Thomas Coby. Interment followed at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
