Jennifer Susan Morris

Jenna Morris of Aquebogue died unexpectedly on Friday, December 17th at her current home in Brooklyn where she partnered with Alex Davidson in operating Power Trip Lighting & Productions. She was also continuing her studies as a psychology student on-line at Southern New Hampshire University. Jenna was 23 years old.

Born April 18, 1987 at Stony Brook Hospital, the first child of Robert and Susan Morris (Moder), Jenna graduated from Riverhead High School in 2005 where she had volunteered for the Town of Southampton’s Back Pack Club, an afterschool program for those youths living in shelters and motels. Her community service included her long time membership in the Riverhead Key Club, assisting to develop the first “Be Homeless Night,” which raised funds and awareness for the local Maureen’s Haven homeless program. Jenna was a member of, and volunteered with, the 4H Camp riding program on Sound Avenue.   She raised funds by bell ringing for the Salvation Army, participating in local walks and collecting food for the pantries and serving dinners.

In her senior year she became the charter Lt. Governor for the newly formed District 1, encompassing all Key Clubs in schools east of Wm. Floyd. While in this position she attended numerous leadership events, including representing New York State at the International District Convention in St. Louis. Jenna’s understanding and compassion for all of the youth she worked with assisted her in being a good leader.

After graduation Jenna studied Equine Science and volunteered with a Connecticut stable for rescued horses that also worked with disabled children. This aided her intended career in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy for troubled children.

She is survived by her parents, her sister Kaitlin and her Grandparents, Joseph and Barbara Moder of Melville and Constance Morris of Southampton.

A memorial service is planned at Old Steeple Church on January 9th at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jenna’s name would be appreciated to either the Equine Advocates horse rescue program in Chatham, NY (www.equineadvocates.org) or to the Southampton Youth Bureau Amerikids Program, attn: Nancy Lynott, 116 Hampton Road, Southampton NY 11968.  Arrangements entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
