Repeat offender arrested for DWI in Riverhead

Jamil Houpe

A Riverhead man, who has been convicted of driving while intoxicated before, was arrested again early Wednesday morning for allegedly driving drunk on Route 58 in Riverhead, authorities said.

State Police said Jamil Houpe, 29, of Doctors Path, made an unsafe lane change and was crossing over road markers while traveling west on Route 58 just after 1 a.m. Police said after they pulled Mr. Houpe over, his breath smelled of alcohol and he failed a sobriety test.

He was charged with felony DWI due to a prior drunk driving conviction.

Mr. Houpe was also charged with DWI on Ludlam Avenue in Flanders in February 2008.

And in 2009, Mr. Houpe pleaded guilty to third-degree menacing in Riverhead Town Justice Court and was fined $400.
