Update: Riverhead schools closed Thursday

The winter storm that brought significant snow to the area Wednesday and into Thursday morning has forced school closings and transportation cancellations and delays today:

Public and Private School Closings

Riverhead School District — Closed

Suffolk County Community College — Closed

Our Redeemer Lutheran School (Aquebogue) — Closed

Bishop McGann-Mercy High School (Riverhead) — Closed

St. Isidore School (Riverhead) — Closed

Riverhead Charter School — Closed

Riverhead Country Day School — Closed

St. David School — Closed

Preschool Closings

Lyrical Children’s Preschool & Learning Center in Calverton — Closed

Kiddie Academy in Riverhead — Closed

Libraries

Riverhead Free Library — Closed

North Shore Public Library — Closed

Transportation reports

7:30 a.m. — Suffolk Bus transportation will begin two hours late Thursday. The Long Island Rail Road has replaced trains with buses between Ronkonkoma and Greenport and is running on delays of more than an hour out of Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson.

6:30 a.m. — The Long Island Rail Road has replaced trains with buses between Ronkonkoma and Greenport. The Cross Sound Ferry has canceled the 6:00 a.m. ferry departing New London and the 7:30 a.m. ferry departing Orient Point. The ferry company has also canceled all of today’s casino packages.

Shopping

Tanger Outlet Center in Riverhead will not open today.

Forecast

The snow has stopped and the sun is making its way out. A high of 34 degrees is expected for today. Winds could reach as much as 14 miles per hour.
