The following is the Winterfest lineup for Sunday, Feb. 13:

2 p.m.

David Amram Quartet at Borghese Vineyard & Winery

David Amram has composed more than 100 orchestral and chamber music works, written many scores for Broadway theater and film, two operas and three books. A pioneer player of jazz French horn, he is also a virtuoso on piano, numerous flutes and whistles, percussion and dozens of folkloric instruments. David has collaborated with Leonard Bernstein, Dizzy Gillespie, Willie Nelson, Lionel Hampton and many others. David’s most recent orchestral works include “Giants of the Night,” Symphonic Variations on a Song,” by Woody Guthrie and “Three Songs: A Concerto for Piano and Orchestra”. He was also chosen as the 2008 Democratic National Convention’s Composer in Residence for Public Events.  He will be the subject of a documentary film about his life, including a filming and recording of his 1968 comic opera “Twelfth Night” and several of his other works.

Dan Aran Trio at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard

Dan Aran started his musical journey in his hometown of Jerusalem, fascinated with the dumbek and drum set. Upon graduating from the Rubin Academy of Music, Dan was already a busy drummer in the Israeli music scene, performing with a number of groups, including bassist Avishai Cohen, the Amos Hoffman group and Omer Avital. He has performed at most of the major venues in Israel, including the Jerusalem Theater, the Camelot and the International Red Sea Jazz Festival. Dan continued his education at The New School in New York. Now an active player on the NYC scene, he has played major venues in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East and is active in both jazz and in world music. In addition to working with such artists as Harry Whitaker, Junior Mance, Natalie Merchant, Stacey Kent, Art Hirahara, Ray Gallon and many others, Dan leads his own quintet, is establishing himself as a writer and bandleader and is producing a new recording, “Breathing.”

3:30 p.m.

Carl Burnett at Osprey’s Dominion

Guitarist Carl Burnett has played and recorded with the likes of Branford Marsalis, David Sanborn, Robben Ford, Hiroshima, the late George Howard and has appeared on the Tonight Show, David Letterman and The Grammy Awards. A musician who can make the leap from a burning jazz/rock solo to an unfettered funk rhythm groove, Carl’s playing leapfrogs musical styles.
The high point of his musical career was playing in Branford Marsalis’ band Buckshot LeFonque, “because there were no musical boundaries. You’d think that would make it easy, but you really need to know yourself and your instrument.” Carl continues building on the songwriting and production credits he already holds by award-winning artists including Boney James, Larry Carlton and Patti Austin. You can also hear his music on the TV shows “Extra” and “Celebrity Justice.”

Julian Waterfall Pollack at Clovis Point

A California native, Julian Waterfall Pollack was born into a musical family and started studying classical piano at age 5 with his mother. While in high school he received many awards, including the Level One Gold Prize from the National Advancement of the Arts and a full-ride scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Instead of going to Boston, Pollack decided to move to New York in 2006 to study jazz piano and composition at New York University. In his first year of college, Pollack was invited to be featured on Marian McPartland’s renowned radio show, Piano Jazz. This last May, he debuted at the Blue Note in New York City by opening for Chick Corea with his trio. This coming March, Pollack’s trio will be working with Brad Mehldau through a special workshop at Carnegie Hall. Having just released a new record, entitled “Infinite Playground,” which has been receiving rave reviews from around the world, Pollack and his trio plan on maintaining an active performing schedule throughout 2011.
From his reviews: “…a wonderful new player on the jazz scene…” —Marian McPartland, host of NPR’s Piano Jazz; “…completely formed, full of innovative insights, technical skills and lyrical nuance…” — All About Jazz. julianpollackmusic.com
