Peconic Bay Medical Center president and CEO Andrew Mitchell and Jesse Goodale, chairman of the board of directors, installed the hospital’s 2011-2013 auxiliary board members on Jan. 26. They are: Maureen Tobin, president; Brigida DiMaio, first vice president; Mary Yarusso, second vice president; Jim Brophy, secretary; and Gaylynn Bagshaw, treasurer. Lyn Tyler, past president of the auxiliary board, was presented with a plaque by Andrew Mitchell in recognition of her dedicated service. Auxiliary volunteers are a key part of the PBMC team, giving more than 22,000 hours of service annually to a variety of areas including fundraising, greeting patients and visitors at the front desk and in the emergency care center, assisting with patient care units, and performing clerical work. If interested in becoming a hospital volunteer, call Lynne LaGrua, director of volunteer services, at 548-6021.

Correction: The entry fee for the student/teacher badminton tournament in memory of John Mendreski, former principal of Pulaski Street School, on Tuesday, March 1, was incorrect in last week’s column. The fee is $10 for each team (one student and one teacher from high school or middle school), not $100. See Coming Up section for more details.

Check out the Adult Continuing Community Education Program that was in your mailbox last week. Classes begin March 14. For more information, or if you would like to share a skill or talent with the community, call 369-6809.
