Stasia Doscinski

Stasia (Yakaboski) Doscinski of Southampton died Feb. 19 at Westhampton Care Center.

She was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to immigrants from Poland and lived in Flanders for over 60 years. Earning a B.A. in teaching from Cortland Normal School (now SUNY/Cortland) in 1934, she taught elementary school for 30 years, most of them at East Quogue Elementary School. She also taught for a short time in Calverton.

On July 5, 1936, she married Edward Doscinski at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead.

According to family, she was a dedicated teacher, and following her retirement in 1972, she became a homemaker. She took great joy in nature, watching the birds at her feeder and growing lots of African violets. She was also a frequent swimmer at 7z’s health club in Flanders.

Predeceased by her husband in 1998, Ms. Doscinski is survived by her sons, Leonard, of Vermont, and Laurence, of Flanders; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Riverhead.
