Shoreham-Wading River: March into spring!

Although the temperatures have been milder, I’m still rooting for calmer weather to come to us sooner rather than later. For anyone else who feels this way, there is something we all can do to push nature along a bit. The Shoreham-Wading River Community Band is having a “March Into Spring” concert on Friday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the SWR High School auditorium. This is a group of highly skilled community musicians who come together for the love of music and to entertain the community with a vast repertoire. Sponsored by the SWR Community Programs, they put on quite a performance. Admission is free. Call 821-8116. Come to the performance and let’s all herald in spring.

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I don’t need this. I wish I could find a good home for this nice item that will be of good use to someone.” Well, the people at North Shore United Methodist Church in Wading River have been thinking that, too. They are opening their very own thrift shop to turn gently used clothing and goods into money that will be put to good use. The grand opening is set for Saturday, March 19, and the hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. So, if you are looking for a bargain or a good home for something you no longer need, drop in and visit the good folks at North Shore United Methodist Church. Your pocketbook will feel better and so will your heart.

You might have seen some advertisements around town about Liam McGuire, a Shoreham-Wading River first-grader who is courageously battling leukemia. A group called Friends 4 Liam has come together to help raise money for him. A chinese auction and buffet fundraiser is planned for May 12 from 7 to 11 p.m. at East Wind in Wading River. Our hearts go out to this very young man and people are wondering how they can be of assistance, so I will tell you. You may donate money or buy tickets ($60 per person; full tables available) by e-mailing [email protected]; donate through PayPal friends4liam; U.S. mail to Friends 4 Liam c/o Naso, 31 East Amber Lane, Wading River, NY 11792; or simply go to Facebook@friends4liam and “like” his page. Whatever you choose to do in whatever form you choose will not only be a great help but greatly appreciated as well.

So, good people of Shoreham-Wading River, until we meet again.
