Walter K. Maas

Longtime Riverhead resident Walter K. Maas died March 11 at The Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. He was 93.

Born in Flushing, Queens, on July 31, 1917, Mr. Maas served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 and went on to work for Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage for many years. He was a member of Baiting Hollow Congregational Church.

Predeceased by his wife, Irma, on Feb. 10 and also by his son Walter T. Maas, he is survived by his son Kenneth, of Missouri.

Visiting hours were March 13 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a funeral service was held March 15 with Pastor E. Stan Knavel of Baiting Hollow Congregational Church officiating. Interment with full military honors followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
