Gertrude V. Rogers

Former Riverhead resident Gertrude V. Rogers of Bellport died March 6 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Patchogue. She was 81.

She was born May 14, 1929, to Milton and Helen Mayo in Riverhead, where she was raised and educated.

She married Robert Rogers, who predeceased her, and lived for most of her adult life in Chicago, where she worked as a secretary for the Chicago Youth Center. Family members said she was a dependable, trustworthy employee and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She moved to Bellport 15 years ago to live with her sister, Mary Giles.

Ms. Rogers is survived by her son, Eric, of Chicago; one granddaughter; and three sisters, Ms. Giles, Martha Mayo of Riverhead and Beverly Huff of Marietta, Ga. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Frances Bunn and Helen Mayo.

Homegoing services were held March 17 at Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
