Police: Northampton man hid booze, punched cop in the face

A Northampton man who was allegedly hiding a 24-ounce open can of malt liquor while running from police punched a Southampton cop in the face after he was tracked down and caught in Riverside Wednesday, authorities said.

Police said Mark Goode, 38, was walking on Old Quogue Road just before noon and acting “in a suspicious manner” while attempting to conceal something on the left side of his body. Police stopped Mr. Goode and found that was walking with an open can of malt liquor, officials said. After an officer informed him that he was under arrest, Mr. Goode started yelling obscenities and then fled the scene on foot, authorities said.

Mr. Good was apprehended after a brief foot chase and punched the officer during the ensuing scuffle, police said.

He was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration and held overnight for an appearance in Southampton Town Justice Court. He was being held at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside in lieu of $25,000 bail, authorities said.
