Drug smuggling bust at county jail

A 34-year-old inmate from Mastic Beach was arrested at the Suffolk jail in Riverside after corrections officers — with aid of drug-sniffing dogs — busted him hiding methadone and marijuana in red and black balloons in his cell, authorities.

Vincent Pucci is facing a slew of charges including promoting prison contraband, criminal possession of a controlled substance, officials announced in a press release titled “Balloons no cause for celebration” Friday.

“Ongoing security operations are integral in maintaining safety within our facilities,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco.

The cell scans came as part of an ongoing effort to keep newly admitted inmates from bringing drugs into the Route 24 correctional facility.

  • So another tax?

Brookhaven takes a few grand from my family in taxes now. My launch fee tax at Mt. Sinai for my dingy went up to $75 bucks this year: a 25% increase year over year! A $125 mooring fee tax as i sit on year 7 of the slip waiting list rowing past empty slips each week when I schlep my row dink up 12 vertical feet to the dingy racks. (got umbilical hernia one year and had to get operated on)

i think at a miniumum if you are already paying a parks tax for a slip, a mooring, or launch or etc. you shoudl not have to pay another tax to walk on or sit on the beach?

Also since to police and monitor all these tags, and permits and stickers, and decals, and papers and registration one sees 3 to 5 people in the booth checking stickers etc. Why not eleminate all this superflous payroll (which probably accounts for 80% of the spend or costs) and just give all brookhaven homeowners a sticker because we are already taxed. then any out of “towners” pay an “access tax” for beaches, launch and etc. like they do now?

Then have the payroll and policing personnel justify their “need” or exisitance or ROI?

Morris and Lesko and town board: give us break, what the heck are you doing with the $100,000 of slip and mooring fees and the portion of our TAXES going to parks and highways etc.?

The is a garbage proposal and i will be voting accordingly. Anyway you cut it you’re trolling around grubbing for more dollars – but still getting it from US!

    NO MORE TAXES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well said Thomas. I too see 3, sometimes 5 people at the booth at Cedar Beach. One working, the others fooling around. Remove those 4 extra employees and there is more $ in the pot. Maybe even enough to have the beaches cleaned. The Lifeguards at West Meadow keep that place spotless. I would love to see the same for Cedar.
