Riverhead: RHS Key Club wins big at conference

The Key Club at Riverhead High School recently went to the New York State Conference with their club adviser, Louise Wilkinson, and received first place in the poster contest, third place in nontraditional scrapbook and first place for best single service for their “Go Green” lessons. Members who achieved distinguished service are: Samantha Gao, Melissa Kujawski, D’Aja Mitchner and Kailyn Gill. Other members who attended the weekend festivities were: Darnishia Wilkins, Paige Graziano and Rachel Flannery.

The club also received the distinguished club award, given to those who go above and beyond as a club. Members of the Key Club earn community service hours, learn leadership skills and make lifelong memories and new friends. They worked on 14 projects, including “Going Green” lessons for the elementary schools, trick-or-treating for UNICEF, collecting food for local pantries and participating in Riverhead’s “Garbage Cleanup Day.” Congratulations to all on these achievements.

Riverhead Middle School’s seventh- and eighth-grade spring concert was a fabulous hit. The students made great progress learning their instruments, controlling their vocals and following the direction of the maestro. The teachers took great pride in their students as they performed and presented their musical talents for the evening. Keep up the good work and may music fill your lives.

Dorothy Latham-Lewis is trying to locate former softball players who played on Roy Mack’s Blockbuster and Masonettes softball team for a reunion slated for Saturday, Sept. 3, at Stotzky Park. For more information, or to help Dorothy locate these softball players for a great day of reminiscing, email [email protected].

Beginning Monday, May 2, and continuing through June, the Yellow Barn at Riverhead Free Library will be open on Mondays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Do check it out.
