Calverton: PLECO dinner postponed

What a stunning Easter Sunday we had! I always tell people not to worry about what the weatherman says, just be patient, and indeed this Easter Sunday, instead of being full of showers, was sunny, perfectly warm and delightful. I even picked the first rhubarb of the year, mowed the lawn, and Jamie and I started to ready the farm stand for this year’s festivities. It really was a very nice day, made all the better by seeing my grandchild, little Julia, in her first Easter dress, cooing and gooing; she is the cutest little girl you have ever seen. And so the grandma speaks!

The PLECO annual scholarship spaghetti dinner that was planned for April 30 has been changed to Sept. 10, same time, same place, just a few months up the road. I will keep all you members updated. But you need to cook this coming Saturday night if you had planned to attend. Throw a few burgers on the grill; it is great weather for grilling.

Parents, make sure you get your third- and fourth-graders off to bed early between May 3 and 6 as they will be taking their ELA assessments tests. Riley has been busy preparing their students for these important tests. Then, just when you think it’s safe to let them stay up a little later between May 11 and 13, these same students take their math assessment tests. Whew, so many responsibilities for these kids. Good luck! Let’s not forget that it’s time for kindergarten registration at the school. If you have a student to sign up for kindergarten you must call pupil personnel services at 369-6804 to make an appointment to register your child.

Happy belated birthday wishes this week  to a really great guy who knows so much about computers it’s mind boggling. Bill London celebrated his 34th birthday on April 18, and, Bill, everyone from Dr. Bach’s office who knows and loves you hopes you had a great, fun birthday. Congratulations.

Another belated birthday wish goes to Stephen O’Kula, who celebrated his 14th on Easter Sunday, April 24. We know you had a nice warm day, and we hope it was a special birthday. And to your sister, Allyson, who celebrates May 1, we wish a very nice 11th birthday from your mom and dad and all your family and friends. Happy birthdays to both of you.

The Baiting Hollow Congregational Church’s annual yard sale on May 7. Do attend, it’s a big, fun yard sale. The rain date is May 14 — but no rain, it will be good.

The local asparagus should be making its appearance really soon; the spinach is here and it is wonderful. Finally, the fresh real veggies we wait for all winter long are making their presence known, and it is so good. Take care, be safe and I shall talk to you next week.
