Aquebogue-Jamesport: Meeting House season begins

Lore Janis of South Jamesport called me last week to say that Jerry was hospitalized over the Easter holiday. I was very sad to hear this news. However, Lore said that Jerry is doing better and is expected to return home this week. We all wish you well, Jerry! Keep up your great attitude and strength, Lore!

The Save The Grange Series continues at Grange Hall in Northville. The Nature Talk Lecture Series for May is hosted by Jeff Frank, founder of The Nature Lyceum (thenaturelyceum.org). Doors open at 6 p.m. and lectures begin promptly at 6:30. Organic snacks  will be served. The schedule for next week is: May 6, “Question and Answer Panel,” given by Flo, Roxanne, Steve, KK, Suzanne, Katherine, Lisa and Amy; May 11, “Herbology, Healing and Horticulture,” given by Steve Restmeyer of Amazon Medicine; and May 13, “Organic Farming and Gardening,” given by Roxanne Zimmer.

In addition to the Nature Series, I will be hosting the 40 Days to Focus Series at The Grange on Saturday mornings through May, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The focus will be on tips for building a healthy lifestyle and a balanced brain by integrating healthy foods, nutritional supplementation and cleansing. In addition, one spiritual principle will be discussed each week. Meditation and prayer end the session. Call me at 831-1897 or email me at [email protected] for more information. All donations by attendees will go directly toward “Save the Grange” for much-needed repairs on this historic community building.

Jamesport Fire District will be hosting its annual inspection and memorial service on Friday, May 20. The inspection of the trucks will begin at 6 p.m., followed by an inspection of the firefighters, who will then assemble at the Jamesport Meeting House, located at the corner of Manor Lane and Main Road, for a memorial service. Light refreshments at the firehouse will follow. The public is invited to attend.

Mark your calendar. The busy season at the Jamesport Meeting House begins this month. This year’s Music at the Meeting House series begins on May 28 with Corky Maul and his Hidden City Orchestra. On June 4, the local band Eastbound Freight will be back with more of their popular bluegrass music. More activities are just around the corner. Visit jamesportmeetinghouse.org, email [email protected], or call Richard Wines at 722-5170.

Happy birthday to Aquebogue resident Ashley Hubbard, who will be turning sweet 16, today, Thursday, May 5.

Did you know that May is Garden for Wildlife Month? The National Wildlife Foundation is providing information to help us celebrate the benefits of creating a wildlife-friendly garden and encourage us all to make a commitment to get outdoors and make our yards more wildlife-friendly. I didn’t realize how hard this winter really was until it was over! I am out walking and working in my yard every day! It’s a great way to refresh body and soul!
