Elisabeth Lapham

Elisabeth Lapham died May 5 at her home in Wading River. She was 95.

Ms. Lapham, known as Betty, received an R.N. degree from Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1937 and also earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Adelphi University. She was a school nurse and teacher in the William Floyd School District and taught nursing at Suffolk County Community College.

A local historian affiliated with the Wading River Historical Society, Ms. Lapham wrote a column, “Echoes from the Past,” which has been collected in booklets that can be found in bookstores and gift shops in the Wading River area.

Predeceased by her husband, Edwin Lapham, she is survived by her daughters, Margaret Quinn, Jennifer Owlett and Barbara; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Margaret and Ruth.

Visiting hours took place May 9 at Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River. A service was held May 10 at Wading River Congregational Church, followed by interment at Wading River Cemetery.
