Aquebogue-Jamesport: New special ed PTA @ RSD

This weekend, on Saturday, June 4, at the Jamesport Meeting House, local band Eastbound Freight will be back performing more of their popular bluegrass music. My husband and I went to this performance last year and it was wonderful. The group consists of lots of local talent with superb musical ability. For more information, visit jamesportmeetinghouse.org, email [email protected] or call Richard Wines at 722-5170.

Don’t forget to stop in at the community yard sale at Hallockville Museum Farm. The sale is on June 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and it promises to be a great day! While you are browsing the sale for bargains and treasures, why not make a tomato cage? Hallockville Community Gardeners are sponsoring a cage-building workshop. Cost: $20 for one cage and $10 for each additional cage. If you are interested, call Herb Strobel at 298-5292.

I suppose Memorial Day weekend really was the start of summer, despite the cold rainy weather we had prior to this weekend. So now is the time to start planning for the kids’ adventures and educational fun. Hallockville Museum Farm has great summer camp programs for kids ages 6-12 and are now accepting applications. Call Herb or email Hallockville Museum Farm at [email protected]. Weekly summer camps run from July 5 through Aug. 12. Discounts are available to members and for those purchasing additional weeks.

Riverhead School District’s special ed community, composed of parents, teachers, staff, students and administrators, has officially formed a Special Education Parent Teacher Association. We will be meeting on Wednesday, June 15, at 7 p.m. at Riverhead Library on the lower level. There will be a special presentation by Suffolk Region PTA and we will elect officers at this meeting. Membership dues, $5 per person. For more information, contact Arlene Gagliano, 793-9549, [email protected]; or Lori Marin, 873-5223, [email protected]. Please come to support our special education community. We need to be united and organized to have a voice.

I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Get outside and take walks, ride bikes and do lots of gardening now for a summer full of color! Have a great week!
