Police: Riverside man stabbed victim with broken bottle; had forged papers

A Riverside man, who police said had forged resident papers, was arrested Thursday after an earlier incident when he smashed a beer bottle over another man’s face and then stabbed him with the broken shards, authorities said.

Juan Velasquez, 33, was arrested by Southampton Town Police Thursday following an investigation stemming from the May 21 incident.

Police said Mr. Velasquez broke the bottle over a male acquaintance’s face and then stabbed him multilple times in the chest. The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment where he received multiple stitches to close the stab wounds.

Mr. Velasquez was called to Southampton police headquarters Thursday where police said he presented officers with a forged resident alien card.

He was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. He was held overnight for an appearance in Southampton Town Justice Court Friday morning.
