Town to rebuild building department headquarters
The Riverhead Town Board on Tuesday awarded a $403,300 contract to Almas Construction of Wading River to rebuild the town’s old building department office on Howell Avenue.
That structure was damaged by a fire on April 16, 2010, and the building department been operating in rented space across the street from Town Hall on East Main Street.
The Town Board at one point considered constructing a two-story building to replace the one-story Howell Avenue building, but officials opted not to do so because of the cost.
Almas Construction, formerly called Zoumas Homes, submitted the lowest of the five bids received on the project. The highest big was for $679,000.
