The 37th annual Polish Town Street Fair and Polka Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, see the Calendar.

Riverhead Middle School eighth-grader Curtis Flippen, son of Lynn Ligon and Greg Flippen and grandson of Richie Ligon, recently spent eight days at St. John’s University and Hofstra University participating in football camp. He is an upcoming star athlete whose credits include being a two-time All American and Most Valuable Player. In December he will attend the All-American Bowl (field to be determined). His family, friends and the community are truly proud of his accomplishment. The athletic gene seems to run in the Flippen family as his father holds a 40-year record at Riverhead High School for the long jump. Greg’s sister is also an accomplished athlete.

Cathleen Walter, kindergarten teacher at St. Isidore School, has been very busy this summer. She has taken on the role of project manager as two rooms at the school are being renovated. The library and the kindergarten room are getting a new makeover thanks to the parents, who donated materials and carpentry work, and Riverhead Rotary, which graciously donated $1,000 toward library materials. The library and kindergarten room will both include a Smart Board, and Eva Reese has been painting a mural on the wall above the reading center in the kindergarten class. Cathleen is looking forward to her new classroom in September and can’t wait for all the students to enjoy their new library. She is doing an incredible job and is excited to be the kindergarten teacher this fall after years as a first-grade teacher at the school.
