Louis H. Lucas

Longtime Flanders resident Louis H. Lucas died Aug. 14 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 79.

He was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Southampton to George and Mildred Lucas and attended Westhampton Beach High School. He married Katherine Shwonik on Nov. 6, 1960, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead.
Mr. Lucas served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954, and later worked as a lieutenant in the Suffolk County Corrections Division.

He loved being on the water, and enjoyed fishing and clamming, family members said.

Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife; his children, Joy Brannon of Ohio, Doreen Weiss of Riverhead and Louis Lucas of Massachusetts; his sister, Alma Setek of Florida; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visiting hours will take place Thursday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R. C. Church, followed by interment at the church cemetery.
