Historian and author Russell Drumm signs copies of his book ‘The Barque of Saviors,’ 4 p.m. on grounds of Shelter Island Historical Society’s 1743 James Havens Homestead, 16 South Ferry Road, part of Sundays in the Barn Series. Mr. Drumm will speak about history of the cutter, christened “Horst Wessel” in Hamburg in 1936 in the presence of Adolf Hitler, and its journey to the U.S. Coast Guard, and share rare archival images of the ship. 749-0025.

East End Arts Council hosts Peconic Paddler’s 2nd Annual 70th Birthday Paddle, starting 6 p.m. at Peconic Paddler, 89 Peconic Ave., Riverhead. Attendees participate in 2-hour paddle ride along Peconic River; following the ride, Peconic Paddler will treat participants to birthday party dinner, with food, Long Island wines, bottled beer and canned soda.
