Sheriff’s office makes free ice available to residents without power

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday that it will make ice available to residents without power as the result of Tropical Storm Irene on a first come, first served basis today.

Residents can drop by the Suffolk County correctional facilities in Riverhead or Yaphank between noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday to fill up a cooler with ice.

There will be a one cooler per car limit on the ice.
