Almost 13 percent still without power in Riverhead area

About 12.7 percent of businesses and homes in the Riverhead area, or 2,808 LIPA customers, were still without power as of 11 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the latest numbers from the Long Island Power Authority.

Some 2,800 of 22,200 local LIPA customers, including those in Flanders, Riverside and Northampton in Southampton Town have now entered their fifth day without energy, including 1,007 in Wading River and 904 in Calverton, since Hurricane Irene swept through the region Sunday morning.

LIPA officials have pledged that they would return power to 90 percent of those who lost it by Friday.
