An unidentified man was struck by a car as he attempted to cross Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Riverhead Town Police.

The man, whose identity police have not yet released, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance personnel. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

A helicopter transport was originally called for but later cancelled, police said.

The accident led to a temporary closure of the westbound lane on Sound Avenue near Horton Avenue, but the road has since been reopened, police said.
