Riverhead superintendent: Bus issues will be fixed next week

Riverhead School District Superintendent Nancy Carney said Friday the district is working to improve school bus routes and that parents can rest assured by next week all transportation problems should be fixed.

This week many parents complained that buses were taking an especially long time to drop children off after school.

Ms. Carney issued the following statement to the News-Review this morning.

“I have spent time at our schools and the bus garage monitoring the progress and speaking to parents, principals and drivers about our routes.  Overall, our transportation system is greatly improved.  This is due, in no small part, to the dedication of the drivers who are working hard to make sure our students arrive at school and get home safely and on time each day.

“However, there are still some areas that need to be addressed.  Over the next few days, we will be looking to alter routes that are taking too long and changing certain stops that are not in ideal locations.  I am confident that by the end of next week every issue will be addressed.”
